Toshiba to Bring Exploding Laptop Expertise to Nuclear Reactors March 6, 2008 at 4:22 PM

Not content to create energy from exploding laptops, Japanese computer maker Toshiba announced today they will launch an American nuclear energy unit. The new subsidiary, Toshiba America Nuclear Energy Corp., will provide operations and maintenance for the company’s dual-use advanced boiling reactor and foot massager. Toshiba’s reactors are extremely popular in Japan, and will be available here in Hello Kitty pink and Domokun brown.

Fingers crossed for Toshiba’s 200 kW micro reactors to land in stores by Christmas.

Although I do not disagree about the safety risks of nuclear power, I find your selective coverage of non-fossil energy sources a bit strange. You have no reservations making a weak analogy between laptops and nuclear plants. And yet despite the massive failures of solar and wind power as compared to the promises of false prophets like Amory Lovins, you continue to trumpet the same propaganda.

There are dangers to coal mining and coal burning, and by continuing to blindly cheerlead for solar power, despite its failures, you’re only promoting the future of coal-fired generation for decades to come. With 5,000 miners per year dying in China, which is more dangerous — nuclear energy or the failed promise of solar energy? Tough call.
